Kaplan Construction has once again earned recognition as one of Massachusetts’ most prominent family-run companies. The Boston Business Journal (BBJ) has named the firm to its annual list of the Largest Family-Owned Businesses in Massachusetts — marking the fourth time Kaplan has appeared in the rankings.
The list highlights Massachusetts-based companies where at least 51 percent ownership is held by two or more family members or married partners. Kaplan Construction — founded in 1976 — has remained steadfast in its commitment to family leadership while continuing to grow its impact across the state’s construction landscape.
Over the past five decades, Kaplan has built a reputation for managing complex renovation and new construction projects in commercial, healthcare, multifamily housing, and religious sectors. Its longevity is further demonstrated by the continuity of its leadership. In 2014, the company completed a three-year ownership transition in which Jane Kaplan Peck became chief operating officer (COO) and majority owner, while Nathan Peck assumed the role of president — positions they continue to hold today.
“Nearly five decades after our founding, we’re proud to remain a family-run business rooted in trust, stability, and longevity,” said Jane Kaplan Peck, COO and co-owner of Kaplan Construction. “Family ownership is our greatest asset, and we’re honored to be recognized by the BBJ for it.”
The company’s leadership model has attracted multiple accolades over the years. Kaplan has been honored by the Family Business Association and Northeastern University’s Center for Family Business for its commitment to multi-generational ownership, community involvement, and industry contributions.
In addition to its recognition as a leading family-owned enterprise, Kaplan has also been ranked six times on BBJ’s list of the 25 Largest Women-Owned Businesses in Massachusetts. The Commonwealth Institute has likewise named the firm to its Top 100 Women-Led Businesses list eight times — reflecting the company’s continued prominence in both diversity leadership and construction excellence.
As the firm approaches its 50th anniversary, Kaplan Construction continues to position itself as a model for sustainable, values-driven business — proving that family ownership can be both enduring and competitive in today’s evolving construction landscape.
