KC Current Breaks Ground on Riverside Stadium & Center

RIVERSIDE, Mo. (July 17, 2025) — The Kansas City Current has officially broken ground on a major new phase of its Riverside campus, further cementing its ambitious vision for the future of women’s soccer in Missouri and beyond.

The latest expansion includes the new Riverside Stadium, a cutting-edge Performance Center, and four additional grass youth pitches — an investment that pushes the club’s total commitment in Riverside to $52 million. All three projects are scheduled to open by year’s end.

Kansas City Current co-owners Angie and Chris Long emphasized the historic nature of the project. “Today’s announcement underscores our commitment to leading the way in women’s sports. Our best-in-class player facilities enable our athletes to reach new heights — our fan facilities set the new standard for fan experience in our league. We are thrilled to continue to invest in the City of Riverside as we build the best women’s soccer club in the world, right here in the State of Missouri. We are elevating our players, our city, and our region — so that we all rise together,” they said.

The Riverside Stadium will seat 2,000 spectators and include a FIFA-certified, heated grass pitch along with fan amenities, locker rooms, and premium training features. The Performance Center will add more than 35,000 square feet to the club’s indoor training capacity, complete with speed and agility zones, treatment rooms, meeting areas and a new players’ lounge.

“Riverside is so excited to continue our partnership with the KC Current to support women’s athletics at the highest level,” said Riverside Mayor Kathy Rose. “The facilities being constructed here do so much more than help the players on the team continue to excel, they send an unmistakable message throughout the sports world that facilities matter in building a winning club and that investments like the one we celebrate this week are just smart business.”

Beyond player development, the expansion supports a full pipeline from youth to pro. The addition of four new grass fields will raise the Current’s training campus to 12 total pitches — strengthening the club’s year-round programming and capacity to host more regional and national tournaments.

According to the Current, Riverside Stadium will become the home base for Kansas City Current II while doubling as a new regional hub for elite sports competitions. The upgraded complex is expected to drive tourism, boost local spending and spark surrounding commercial development, adding to Riverside’s fast-growing reputation as a sports and entertainment destination.

The club’s partners include Palmer Square Real Estate Management as developer, Monarch Build as general contractor, and HOK as project architect.

This latest expansion builds on the Current’s recent milestone projects, including the $140 million CPKC Stadium — the first in the world purpose-built for a women’s professional team — and a $1 billion mixed-use riverfront district underway in downtown Kansas City.
Season tickets for the 2025 home matches are now on sale, with limited single-match tickets available to the public. Fans can join the Current Club membership program to unlock perks like priority ticket access, exclusive events, and special discounts.

Founded in 2020 by Angie Long, Chris Long, Brittany Mahomes and Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Current has rapidly gained a reputation as one of the National Women’s Soccer League’s most innovative and ambitious clubs — setting new standards for professional women’s sports in North America.
