KC Current Breaks Ground on Riverside Stadium & Performance Center

RIVERSIDE, Mo. (July 17, 2025) — The Kansas City Current has officially broken ground on a major new phase of its growth in Riverside, Missouri — marking a bold step forward for women’s soccer in the region and nationwide. The next chapter includes construction of Riverside Stadium, a new state-of-the-art Performance Center, and an expansion of its grass and turf pitches. Together, these developments bring the club’s total player facility investment in Riverside to $52 million, all of which is expected to open by year’s end.

The new 2,000-seat Riverside Stadium will feature a FIFA-certified, heated grass pitch, fan amenities, and serve as the home for Kansas City Current II — while also hosting regional elite events that draw visitors and economic activity to Riverside.

“Today’s announcement underscores our commitment to leading the way in women’s sports,” said Kansas City Current co-owners Angie and Chris Long. “Our best-in-class player facilities enable our athletes to reach new heights – our fan facilities set the new standard for fan experience in our league. We are thrilled to continue to invest in the City of Riverside as we build the best women’s soccer club in the world, right here in the State of Missouri.”

The Performance Center will boost the club’s training capabilities with more than 35,000 square feet dedicated to player strength, agility, recovery, and meeting spaces. With added indoor speed and agility training zones, dedicated treatment rooms, and new player lounges, the center ensures the Current’s stars — from youth prospects to first-team professionals — have elite tools at every stage of their development pathway.

To meet the rising demand for local youth programs and regional tournaments, the club is also adding four new grass pitches, bringing the total training campus footprint to 12 grass and turf pitches — including a heated field to support year-round play.

Mayor Kathy Rose of Riverside celebrated the impact for the community, stating: “Riverside is so excited to continue our partnership with the KC Current to support women’s athletics at the highest level. The facilities being constructed here do so much more than help the players on the team continue to excel, they send an unmistakable message throughout the sports world that facilities matter in building a winning club and that investments like the one we celebrate this week are just smart business.”

The ambitious build reflects the club’s larger mission: to set the global standard for women’s sports by providing unmatched resources and infrastructure, while also acting as an economic catalyst for Riverside and the wider Kansas City region. The Riverside project follows the successful completion of the CPKC Stadium — the first stadium purpose-built for a women’s pro team — and adds momentum to other major projects, such as the $1 billion downtown mixed-use riverfront district and a $150 million sports-anchored development in Riverside.

Palmer Square Real Estate Management is the developer for the Riverside project, with Monarch Build as the general contractor and HOK as architect — all trusted partners known for sports-anchored community projects.

Single-match tickets for the 2025 regular season at CPKC Stadium are on sale now. Fans can also join the Current Club for exclusive perks and early ticket access.

The Kansas City Current, founded in 2020 and owned by Angie Long, Chris Long, Brittany Mahomes, and Patrick Mahomes, has become a trailblazer in the National Women’s Soccer League and beyond — building the blueprint for how clubs can elevate women’s sports on and off the pitch.
