KOHLER, Wis. — Global hospitality and golf leader Kohler Co. has officially broken ground on its newest course — a 14-hole short-form layout named Purebred Farm — marking the latest expansion of its renowned Whistling Straits golf resort portfolio.

The project, announced this week, will be designed and built by King Collins Dormer Golf Course Design, one of the industry’s most innovative modern architecture firms known for crafting dynamic, character-rich courses. Construction is set to begin in the coming weeks, with a target opening in autumn 2027.
Located on scenic land just west of the company’s Blackwolf Run course, the Purebred Farm development will add a new dimension to Kohler’s golfing legacy, which already includes four 18-hole courses and a par-3 layout at its world-famous Whistling Straits property — host of the 2021 Ryder Cup.
According to Kohler, the course will stretch about 4,900 yards and blend a mix of prairie, farmland, and river valley terrain, offering a uniquely immersive experience for golfers of all skill levels. The layout emphasizes strategy, aesthetics, and shot-making challenges, blending seamlessly with the natural topography of Wisconsin’s countryside.
“Our new course will reflect a minimalist design style in an environmentally conscious way,” said Dirk Willis, vice president of golf, landscape, and retail for Kohler Hospitality. “We will use the natural terrain when setting locations for tees, fairways and greens.”
Willis added that the expansion aligns with Kohler’s long-term commitment to growing the sport: “Kohler is committed to growing the game of golf and expanding access to more individuals at all skill levels. Each of the last five years has been record-setting in terms of golf rounds at our resort, and we project this strong growth to continue. This additional golf course will provide another level of enjoyment for guests and further cement our position as a leading global golf destination.”

The Purebred Farm course is expected to enhance Kohler’s already robust reputation as one of the world’s top golf destinations, which draws thousands of players annually from the U.S. and abroad. With Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run consistently ranked among the Top 100 public courses in America, the new addition aims to offer a more casual, fast-paced, and accessible playing experience while maintaining the brand’s high design standards.
Design firm King Collins Dormer, co-founded by architects Tad King and Rob Collins, is celebrated for bringing creativity and playability to every project. Their designs often emphasize natural movement, strategic variety, and minimalist construction techniques—an approach that aligns with Kohler’s sustainability-focused philosophy.
The company’s emphasis on environmental stewardship will remain central to this project. Kohler’s previous developments have received praise for preserving native landscapes and utilizing resource-efficient design and irrigation systems. The new course will continue that legacy by integrating low-impact shaping and native vegetation to reduce maintenance needs.
Beyond design innovation, the addition of Purebred Farm represents a strategic tourism investment for the region. With golf tourism contributing significantly to Wisconsin’s economy, Kohler’s latest project is expected to attract new visitors, create local jobs, and further strengthen the state’s status as a premier golf travel destination.
When complete, Purebred Farm will stand as a testament to Kohler’s ongoing pursuit of golf excellence — combining craftsmanship, environmental mindfulness, and the welcoming spirit that has defined its brand for more than a century.
