L.G. Everist Opens Major SD Asphalt, Ready-Mix & Recycling Site

HARRISBURG, S.D. — Construction material supplier L.G. Everist has officially launched full operations at its Nine Mile Park facility outside Harrisburg, South Dakota, marking a significant expansion of its regional footprint. The 60-acre site, the largest in the company’s network, now features active asphalt production, alongside ready-mix concrete operations and a recycling yard for reclaimed construction materials.
The asphalt plant came online in May, following the launch of ready-mix production last fall. With the addition of asphalt capabilities, the site is now fully operational and designed to serve a broad spectrum of infrastructure and construction needs in the growing Sioux Falls metro region.

“It’s now a full-fledged ready-mix and hot mix asphalt facility,” said Rob Everist, President and CEO of L.G. Everist. “And then we’ve got recycled materials—road millings and crushed concrete in the back—so it’s a 60-acre, all-weather site that can produce all sorts of construction materials.”
The site employs around three dozen workers and doubles the company’s production capacity in the area. Located off Interstate 29, the facility offers improved access, efficiency, and distribution flexibility, particularly as the region undergoes major infrastructure work like Veterans Parkway and bridge projects.
“Sioux Falls, there’s a lot of infrastructure work right now... but we’re happy and busy every day,” Everist noted.
Nine Mile Park also includes a recycling yard where asphalt and concrete are processed and reused, reinforcing the company’s sustainability efforts. Everist said the location also replaces a smaller nearby plant and complements another site in northeast Sioux Falls, giving the company coverage on both sides of the city.
Beyond operations, the site also reflects the company’s commitment to aesthetics and community relations. “As you drive by, you look at it and say it doesn’t look like a typical construction yard,” Everist said. “We did that on purpose. We invested more to make it look nice... to show the county and the community we’re here to be good neighbors.”
The site features paved surfaces, landscaping, and state-of-the-art technology, including digital systems for truck monitoring and load management. All trucks are also washed before leaving the facility, a measure that enhances cleanliness and safety on public roads.
L.G. Everist currently operates about two dozen locations across the Upper Midwest and Colorado, with a total workforce of around 440 employees. The company also owns an additional 80 acres of farmland adjacent to the site, which could be developed commercially once the nearby interchange is redesigned.
“It’s being farmed right now for crops, and when the interchange gets redone, we will start looking at development,” Everist added.
A ribbon-cutting and open house event will take place on June 19 at 11:30 a.m. CT, inviting the public to tour the facility and learn more about its capabilities and community impact.
