Highlights

  • Miller Electric completed electrical modernization work at the Magnetic Silencing Facility at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay in Georgia.
  • RQ Construction received the prime contract for the repairs program in August 2024.
  • The project reached substantial completion in May 2026.
  • Work included upgrades to electrical infrastructure supporting submarine magnetic signature management systems.
  • The project continues ongoing collaboration between Miller Electric and RQ Construction on Navy infrastructure programs at Kings Bay.

Critical infrastructure upgrades at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay have advanced the operational readiness of a specialized Navy facility responsible for supporting submarine stealth capabilities.

Miller Electric completed electrical systems work as part of the Magnetic Silencing Facility repairs project at the Georgia submarine base. RQ Construction served as the prime contractor for the program, which supports long-term operation of one of the Navy’s specialized submarine support facilities.

Electrical Modernization Scope

The Magnetic Silencing Facility supports the Navy’s management of submarine magnetic signatures, a process tied to reducing vessel detectability during operations. The installation includes electromagnetic field generation systems, underwater sensor arrays, controls infrastructure and power distribution equipment.

Miller Electric’s scope included installation and integration of upgraded electrical infrastructure supporting those systems. Construction activities focused on improving operational reliability while maintaining continuity at an active military installation.

The electrical contractor joined the project team in December 2024 after RQ Construction secured the prime contract in August of that year.

Ongoing Work at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay

The project adds to a series of defense-related construction efforts involving Miller Electric and RQ Construction at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.

The companies have previously collaborated on the P684 Trident Refit Facility Expansion and the Trident Training Facility Recapitalization program at the installation. Those projects are part of broader military infrastructure investment programs tied to submarine fleet support and modernization.

The Magnetic Silencing Facility originally entered service in 1993 and remains a critical operational asset for the Navy’s submarine force.

Defense Infrastructure Construction Activity

Military facility modernization continues to generate opportunities for specialty contractors with experience operating in secure and active defense environments. Electrical systems integration, controls modernization and resilient power infrastructure remain significant components of Navy and Department of Defense capital improvement programs.

For construction owners and contractors, projects at active military installations typically require phased execution, operational continuity planning and coordination with multiple stakeholders while meeting federal construction and security requirements.

The Kings Bay program reached substantial completion in May 2026, positioning the facility to continue supporting current submarine operations and future mission requirements.
