Nebraska Medicine has announced plans to build a new $99 million medical facility in Omaha aimed at expanding access to several high-demand healthcare services.

The four-story building, called the Farnam Health Center, will be constructed near the intersection of 42nd and Farnam streets. The project is expected to strengthen the health system’s outpatient services while addressing growing community demand for specialized medical care.
According to the hospital system, the project will be funded through a combination of private donations and institutional investment. Construction is expected to be completed by summer 2027, with the center scheduled to begin seeing patients later that September.
Hospital officials say the new facility will play a central role in expanding specialty healthcare services across the region.
The center will become the primary home for Nebraska Medicine’s dermatology program while also offering outpatient gastrointestinal care, behavioral health services and internal medicine treatment. Leaders say these specialties are among the most requested services in the community.
“We know there is an urgent need for behavioral health services in the community," said Michael Ash. "This project is a meaningful step toward expanding our world-class care and supporting those who rely on us.”
Healthcare providers across the United States have seen increasing demand for behavioral health and digestive health services in recent years, making expanded access a priority for many hospital systems.
The Farnam Health Center is designed to improve access to specialized care while reducing patient wait times and consolidating services in one location.
Healthcare leaders say dermatology and gastrointestinal services are among the fastest-growing outpatient specialties due to increased demand for preventative care, chronic disease treatment and specialized diagnostics.
Behavioral health services are also a major focus of the project, as communities nationwide face shortages of mental health professionals and treatment facilities.
By expanding services in Omaha, Nebraska Medicine aims to provide more comprehensive care while improving coordination between specialists and primary care providers.

The project highlights the growing role of philanthropic support in expanding healthcare infrastructure. Private donors are contributing a portion of the funding, helping Nebraska Medicine accelerate the development of new facilities.
Large healthcare systems increasingly rely on these partnerships to finance capital projects that improve access to specialized services and modern medical technology.
Once completed, the Farnam Health Center will add to Nebraska Medicine’s expanding network of facilities serving patients throughout Nebraska and neighboring states.
Hospital officials say the investment represents a long-term commitment to improving access to advanced medical care and meeting the evolving healthcare needs of the Omaha community.
