HITT Contracting, a nationally ranked commercial construction company, has officially broken ground on its new headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia, located in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The project is being spearheaded by HITT and designed by the world-renowned architecture firm Gensler. Spanning an impressive 270,000 square feet over six stories, the future headquarters will provide cutting-edge office space, with an expected completion date set for early 2027.
“We’re laying the foundation for innovation, progress, and collaboration,” stated Kim Roy, CEO of HITT Contracting, during the groundbreaking ceremony. “This building is so much more than an office. It’s a beacon of what’s possible when curiosity, ingenuity, and determination fuse to create a new vision.”
With sustainability as one of the key pillars of the design, HITT aims for the building to earn LEED Platinum certification, reinforcing the company’s ongoing commitment to effecting meaningful change in the construction industry. The collaboration with Virginia Tech’s Coalition for Smart Construction underscores this drive toward a sustainable, innovation-focused future.

The headquarters will feature a 40,000-square-foot research lab developed in collaboration with Virginia Tech’s Coalition for Smart Construction. This cutting-edge facility will provide a venue for hands-on research and development addressing key challenges in the built environment, including sustainability, labor shortages, and materials innovation. The lab is expected to become a nationally recognized hub for innovation in construction, where the future of building practices will be advanced.
“We are excited to partner with HITT and grow our network of innovation to address the future of smart construction,” said Julie Ross, Paul and Dorothea Torgersen Dean of Engineering at Virginia Tech. “Upon completion, this space will provide an opportunity to partner with industry in the development of new technologies and approaches that will transform the construction industry while supporting graduate student research and experiential learning. Together, we can imagine the future and help to develop the technology and the talent to get it there.”
In addition to its emphasis on sustainability, the building will be designed to meet ambitious net-zero energy and net-zero carbon goals. A 100,000-square-foot photovoltaic solar canopy and wind turbines will power the facility, offsetting all of its estimated energy needs. A standout feature of the project is the introduction of the HyperWall building envelope system, a cutting-edge innovation developed in collaboration with Building Composites. This system offers a lighter, stronger, and more energy-efficient construction solution, enhancing the overall performance of the building.
The location of HITT’s new headquarters is strategically situated within a vibrant community, just a short distance from the West Falls Church Metro station, ensuring convenient access to public transportation for the company’s 900 local team members. This choice of location also supports sustainable urban development, providing HITT with the opportunity to contribute to the broader growth of the region.
At the start of 2025, the Washington, D.C. office market had over 1.5 million square feet of office space under development, with this project contributing significantly to that total. As of Q4 2024, the D.C. area held the fifth-largest pipeline of under-construction office projects among U.S. markets exceeding 100 million square feet in size, though this represents less than 1% of the overall office market stock in the region.
