The new addition, known as Foreword, will function as a gateway space for visitors entering the museum. Designed to encourage reflection and understanding before guests move into the core exhibits, the addition is intended to frame the story of the 1995 bombing while emphasizing themes of resilience, remembrance and community healing.

Covering roughly 10,000 square feet, the addition will feature multiple interconnected spaces that support learning and contemplation. Museum officials say the layout is designed to better prepare visitors for the emotional weight of the museum experience while also improving visitor flow during peak attendance periods.

Construction on Foreword is taking place while the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum remains fully operational. Officials emphasized that exhibits and the outdoor memorial will continue to be accessible throughout the project, minimizing disruptions for visitors, school groups and tourists.

The expansion reflects the memorial’s ongoing commitment to adapting its facilities to meet the needs of a growing and diverse audience. Since opening, the museum has welcomed visitors from around the world, and leaders say the new addition will allow the institution to better serve first-time visitors, educators and community groups.

Beyond enhancing the physical space, the project underscores the memorial’s broader mission to honor those who were killed, those who survived and those forever changed by the bombing, while continuing to promote education around the consequences of violence and the importance of compassion and unity.
