Architecture and engineering firms continue investing in internship programs as competition for skilled professionals remains strong. Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) has completed its 2026 summer internship program, providing students with practical experience across multiple technical disciplines while supporting the firm's efforts to develop future industry talent.
The program placed interns in offices throughout the Southeast, where they worked alongside design and engineering professionals on active projects while strengthening technical and professional skills.
Interns participated in architecture, engineering, environmental, landscape architecture and transportation teams, gaining exposure to project planning, design coordination and technical workflows.
The program paired students with experienced professionals who provided mentoring, guidance and day-to-day collaboration. Participants also developed technical capabilities in areas such as geographic information systems (GIS), architectural design and engineering practices while working in both office and field environments.
In addition to technical training, interns reported gaining experience in communication, teamwork and project problem-solving.
The internship initiative is designed to help bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice by exposing students to real-world project delivery and multidisciplinary collaboration.
