School districts across California continue to advance campus modernization programs focused on classroom capacity, student services and athletic facilities. C. Overaa & Co. has started construction on a classroom and gymnasium expansion project at Coliseum College Preparatory Academy in Oakland, California.
The education construction project is being developed in partnership with the Oakland Unified School District and Noll & Tam Architects.
The project includes construction of a new high school classroom wing containing 14 classrooms and two science laboratories.
Plans also call for development of a gymnasium featuring training and weight rooms, along with upgrades to outdoor areas intended for student learning, recreation and community use.
The project team includes Brailsford & Dunlavey, Shah Kawasaki Architects, BKF Engineers, Alter Consulting Engineers, Degenkolb Engineers, Merrill Morris Partners and Terraphase Engineering.
According to project information released by C. Overaa & Co., the campus improvements are being delivered through a progressive design-build model.
Education owners increasingly have adopted collaborative delivery approaches for school modernization projects in an effort to improve coordination, streamline schedules and manage project costs during active campus operations.
The project also reflects continued public investment in Oakland educational facilities through voter-approved Measure Y funding.
For education facility owners and contractors, the project highlights continued demand for K-12 modernization and expansion work across California.
The addition of science labs, athletic facilities and upgraded learning spaces also reflects broader district priorities tied to college readiness, student wellness and long-term campus infrastructure improvements.
