Transit infrastructure investment continues across Canada as municipalities advance rail expansion projects tied to long-term population growth and transportation demand. PCL Construction has secured a contract to advance construction of the Maintenance and Storage Facility for Calgary’s Green Line LRT Southeast Project, a key operational component of the city’s future transit network.

The work package focuses on preparing the site and establishing foundational infrastructure for the multi-building transit operations complex.
The Maintenance and Storage Facility will support day-to-day Green Line operations, including rail vehicle storage, maintenance and preparation activities.
PCL Construction’s contract scope includes site grading, underground utility installation and construction of foundations for multiple structures within the facility campus. Planned structures include the maintenance shop, train storage building and related administrative and operations spaces.
Additional work involves drainage infrastructure, retaining walls, underground services, duct banks and protection of existing utilities throughout the project site.
Foundation activities will include subgrade preparation, cast-in-place concrete installation and embedded mechanical and electrical components required to support future structural systems.
The Green Line LRT project represents one of Calgary’s major transportation infrastructure initiatives intended to expand transit capacity and improve regional mobility connections.
Maintenance and storage facilities are a critical component of rail transit systems, providing operational support for fleet servicing, inspections and overnight vehicle storage.
Construction on the site preparation and foundation phase began in late May 2026. Current project schedules indicate the scope of work is expected to conclude later this year.
Transit infrastructure projects continue generating substantial opportunities for civil contractors, utility specialists and concrete construction firms across North America.
For construction owners and infrastructure developers, the Green Line Maintenance and Storage Facility highlights the growing demand for specialized transit-support infrastructure required to sustain expanding urban rail systems. The project also reflects ongoing municipal investment in long-term transportation capacity, operational resiliency and public infrastructure modernization.
