Higher education institutions continue expanding athletic and student recreation infrastructure as universities compete to enhance campus amenities, athletic programming and student engagement. Regent University has advanced construction on a new athletic and fitness complex in Virginia Beach, with foundational work completed for the project’s primary athletic facility.
The multi-building development will create a large-scale athletics and recreation destination on the university’s campus and represents a significant institutional construction project within the Hampton Roads region.
According to Regent University, construction crews have completed foundation installation and underslab utility work for the project’s main athletic building.
The university said structural work is expected to move above grade in the coming weeks as crews begin erecting walls and installing structural steel systems.
The main athletic building is serving as the project’s initial construction priority because of its scale and technical complexity. Stadium construction and additional site amenities will continue as the broader development progresses.
Project completion is scheduled for fall 2027.
The 31-acre sports complex will include a 2,000-seat NCAA championship arena, varsity weight room, fitness center and sports medicine clinic.
Additional athletic facilities planned for the site include baseball and softball stadiums, a 400-meter outdoor track, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and pickleball courts.
The development also incorporates campus-oriented public space and landscape improvements including pedestrian pathways, gathering areas, plazas and water features designed to connect multiple areas of the complex.
University officials indicated the project includes integrated site utility work and broader infrastructure improvements supporting long-term campus expansion.
For contractors, developers and institutional facility owners, the Regent University project reflects continued investment in collegiate athletics and student recreation infrastructure.
University athletic developments increasingly combine competition venues, wellness facilities and campus public space into multiuse projects designed to support recruitment, student life and institutional growth objectives. Large campus recreation projects also continue generating demand for specialty sports construction, structural steel installation, site development and complex utility coordination across higher education markets.
