A major industrial manufacturing project in the Houston-area market has reached a key construction milestone as work progresses on GCP Paper’s flagship U.S. production facility. The development adds to ongoing manufacturing investment activity across Texas and highlights continued demand for large-scale industrial construction services.
Satterfield & Pontikes Construction recently completed the underground mill structure for GCP Paper’s manufacturing campus in New Caney, Texas, allowing the project team to transition into vertical construction phases.
The completed underground structure will support core operations within the future paper manufacturing facility. Following completion of the below-grade work, crews began backfilling operations to prepare the site for continued structural development.
Project work has involved extensive site preparation, underground utility coordination and structural construction activities requiring collaboration among the owner, design consultants and multiple specialty trade contractors.
More than 200 trade partner personnel participated in a milestone event recognizing project progress and workforce contributions on the jobsite.
The New Caney facility represents GCP Paper’s first fully integrated manufacturing operation in the United States. The project is expected to expand the company’s North American production capacity while supporting industrial development activity in East Montgomery County.
Regional economic development organizations have identified manufacturing projects as an important driver for infrastructure demand, workforce growth and industrial investment throughout the Houston-area market.
Construction activity at the site continues as crews move into the next phase of building development.
Project leaders also recognized the jobsite’s safety performance after surpassing 200,000 construction work hours without a recordable incident.
Large industrial manufacturing projects often require extensive coordination among contractors, equipment suppliers and specialty subcontractors operating simultaneously across multiple work areas. Maintaining safety performance during underground and structural operations remains a key focus for owners and construction managers on complex industrial sites.
The project team also acknowledged trade partner participation and workforce engagement throughout the construction program.
Industrial manufacturing construction continues to generate significant opportunities for contractors and specialty trades across Texas. Projects involving integrated production facilities typically require extensive civil, structural, mechanical and utility infrastructure work over extended delivery schedules.
For construction owners and developers, milestone achievements tied to safety performance and schedule progression can provide indicators of project execution stability as facilities move from sitework into vertical construction phases. The GCP Paper project also reflects continued industrial investment activity in emerging growth corridors outside the Houston metro core.
