GAUTIER, Miss. (WXXV) — A major cultural project celebrating Mississippi’s deep musical heritage is quickly becoming a reality on the Gulf Coast.

Construction continues to move forward on the Mississippi Songwriters Performing Arts Center and Hall of Fame in Gautier, with crews making visible progress on the structure’s exterior.
Work has been underway since the groundbreaking ceremony on Aug. 15, and several exterior walls are now in place — a significant milestone for the long-anticipated facility.
Once completed, the center will spotlight the Magnolia State’s enduring impact on American music. The Hall of Fame will pay tribute to iconic artists such as Jimmy Buffett and B.B. King, showcasing their stories, memorabilia and timeless songs.
Organizers say the facility will feature interactive museum exhibits, educational programming and space for live performances, creating a destination designed to celebrate both past legends and emerging songwriters.
Mississippi has long been recognized as a powerhouse of musical innovation — from blues and country to rock and contemporary genres — and the center aims to preserve that legacy while inspiring future generations of artists.

Beyond honoring music history, the Mississippi Songwriters Performing Arts Center is expected to serve as a cultural and economic catalyst for Gautier and surrounding Gulf Coast communities.
Leaders anticipate the venue will attract visitors from across the region and beyond, boosting tourism and supporting nearby businesses. The combination of museum space and performance venues is designed to make the center an active gathering place rather than a static exhibit hall.
Construction remains on schedule, and organizers say a grand opening date will be announced as the project nears completion later this year.
As steel and concrete continue to rise, the vision for a permanent home celebrating Mississippi’s songwriting excellence is steadily taking shape along the Coast.
