A suspect was injured during an officer-involved shooting in Henderson, Nevada, after allegedly stealing a construction vehicle and using it to ram police cruisers, according to authorities. The incident occurred Sunday morning and resulted in injuries to two police officers, though their injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Police say the suspect was driving a stolen front-end loader when officers attempted to stop him near the Boulder Highway area. The situation unfolded around 9:10 a.m. Mountain Time, when the Henderson Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle.
Local resident Francisco, who has lived in the neighborhood for two years, described the disruption as unusual for the normally quiet area.
“This does not normally happen here,” said Francisco.
Francisco said he encountered police activity while running errands and noticed streets blocked off with caution tape.
“We’re trying to go to the store, and that area was closed with yellow tape and the cop told us to go back and go around,” Francisco shared.
According to police, when officers arrived, they found the suspect operating the stolen front loader and attempting to flee. Authorities say the situation quickly escalated as officers attempted to stop the vehicle.

“As they arrived to attempt to stop the construction vehicle, the driver of the construction vehicle attempted to run over the officer numerous times,” said Capt. Haven Tillmon with HPD.
Police said the suspect then used the front loader to ram two patrol vehicles, trapping them beneath the heavy equipment.
“The suspect was shot twice, one in the arm and one in the leg,” Tillmon said.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and transported to a hospital for treatment. During the arrest, two officers were injured and later taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Francisco said the incident left residents shaken, particularly given the rapid growth of the neighborhood.
“I’m kind of shocked now because like I said, it’s real quiet here,” Francisco expressed.
Investigators say the suspect stole the construction vehicle from a nearby construction site, an area surrounded by newly built homes and ongoing development. Damage at the site included a broken gate and tire tracks along North Water Street, leading to where police eventually stopped the suspect.
Capt. Tillmon confirmed the shooting marked the first officer-involved shooting in Henderson in 2026.
“This is the first officer-involved shooting in Henderson [in] 2026,” Tillmon remarked.
Henderson police said body camera footage and additional details from the investigation are expected to be released later this week as the case continues.
