Sycamore Creek Solar Project Begins Construction in Ohio

Caroline Raffetto

National Grid Renewables has officially commenced construction on the Sycamore Creek solar project in Crawford County, Ohio. The solar facility is set to contribute 117 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy to the state’s power grid and is expected to generate a $27 million economic boost to the local community.

Once operational, Sycamore Creek will not only add a significant amount of clean energy to Ohio’s grid but will also bring substantial benefits to the surrounding region. The project is anticipated to generate around $16 million in new tax revenue for Crawford County, which will help support vital local services like schools, emergency response units, and townships.

National Grid Renewables' vice president of construction, Joe Ibrahim, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainable energy in Ohio: “We have a longstanding commitment to bringing forth sustainable energy solutions for the residents of Ohio. Sycamore Creek is our fifth solar project to begin construction within the state, and we want to thank Ohioans for their support as we continue to grow our portfolio in Ohio.”

The construction phase is expected to create approximately 160 jobs, providing vital employment opportunities for local workers. The company has partnered with Kiewit Power Constructors to handle the engineering, procurement, and construction services for the project. Kiewit has an established history with National Grid Renewables, having previously collaborated on four other solar projects across the state.

Sycamore Creek Solar Project Enhances ...

Sycamore Creek is a key addition to National Grid Renewables’ expanding solar portfolio in Ohio, which now exceeds 675MW of operational and under-construction projects. Following the success of the Yellowbud solar project—Ohio’s largest solar installation that began operations in late 2023—the Sycamore Creek project will help solidify the company’s strong presence in the state’s renewable energy sector.

In addition to Sycamore Creek, National Grid Renewables is currently working on the Dodson Creek solar project, further contributing to the state’s green energy future. These projects reflect the company's strategy to create a diverse, sustainable energy portfolio while fostering economic growth in the communities they serve.

Brian Koller, vice president of Kiewit Power Constructors, praised the ongoing partnership with National Grid Renewables: “We are proud to continue our partnership with National Grid Renewables on the Sycamore Creek solar project. Together, we are building a sustainable future while creating significant economic benefits for the communities we serve. This marks another milestone in our shared commitment to advancing clean energy solutions across Ohio.”

The Sycamore Creek solar project is expected to be completed in 2026. Once operational, the site will provide a significant contribution to Ohio’s renewable energy capacity and support the state’s ongoing efforts to transition to clean energy sources. The project also highlights the growing trend of large-scale renewable energy developments across the U.S., contributing to the fight against climate change and the achievement of net-zero emissions goals.

National Grid Renewables continues to prioritize clean energy initiatives that align with the company’s mission of sustainability and environmental stewardship.
