Whiting-Turner will construct a new headquarters on the Goucher College campus in Baltimore, as announced in a news release from the college on February 26. This collaborative venture between Whiting-Turner, a leading construction firm, and Goucher College, a private liberal arts college, aims to create a space that will help introduce young people to career opportunities in design and construction.

The two institutions have entered into a 50-year ground lease agreement, underscoring their shared commitment to long-term growth and collaboration in the construction and education sectors. The new headquarters will serve as a hub for workforce development, with a focus on fostering the next generation of leaders in construction.

Whiting-Turner’s new headquarters will mark a significant milestone in the company’s growth and community involvement, even though the company is relocating just a mile from its existing Towson, Maryland location. As noted by Whiting-Turner President and CEO, Tim Regan, the move represents more than just a shift in geography.

“This partnership brings together two historic Baltimore institutions with more than a century of leadership and innovation,” Regan said. “It reflects our commitment to the future growth of our company while strengthening our ties to the community. We are excited to collaborate with Goucher to create a space that cultivates engagement, innovation, and lasting partnerships for generations to come.”

The new 150,000-square-foot office building will be designed to promote connections with both the Goucher College community and the surrounding Towson area. Along with serving as a modern workplace for Whiting-Turner’s employees, the facility will be equipped to support cutting-edge, safety-focused industry training programs. The space will also facilitate community-driven initiatives, further embedding Whiting-Turner within the local area.

As one of the top construction firms in the nation, with $11.3 billion in revenue last year, Whiting-Turner ranks as the fifth-largest contractor in the United States by revenue. For the design and development of the headquarters, the company has partnered with the renowned San Francisco-based architecture firm, Gensler, which is leading the design of the new facility.

This announcement comes at a time when other prominent construction firms in the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore areas are also expanding their offices. For example, HITT Contracting, based in Falls Church, Virginia, broke ground in January on its new six-story, 270,000-square-foot headquarters.

While the project is still in the early stages, Whiting-Turner’s new headquarters is slated to be completed by late 2028, marking a new chapter in both the company’s legacy and its relationship with the Baltimore community.

Expanding Opportunities for Future Generations

The emphasis on providing career opportunities for young people is central to the project. Through its collaboration with Goucher College, Whiting-Turner plans to establish programs that will give students and young professionals hands-on experience in the construction and design fields. These efforts are part of the company’s broader initiative to address the growing demand for skilled workers in the construction industry and to nurture the next wave of talent.

The new headquarters will also include state-of-the-art training facilities, providing a critical space for workforce development programs focused on construction safety, technology, and industry best practices. This approach not only benefits Whiting-Turner but also contributes to the broader community’s engagement in the construction industry.

A Vision for the Future

This move is part of a broader trend of construction companies in the region investing in new facilities and expanding their influence. Whiting-Turner’s new headquarters will set the stage for ongoing collaboration with local educational institutions and businesses, reinforcing the company’s commitment to community engagement and workforce development for years to come.

By building this new facility, Whiting-Turner is not only securing its place as an industry leader but also helping to shape the future of construction in the Baltimore area, paving the way for more sustainable and innovative industry practices.
