A construction worker in Washington County, Utah, was rushed to the hospital Monday morning after being struck by falling trusses at a jobsite, authorities said.
The accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. when several hundred pounds of lumber reportedly gave way and fell onto the man. Emergency responders were called to the scene as coworkers immediately sought medical assistance.

Officials have not confirmed how many trusses collapsed or the exact size of the load that hit the worker. Details about what may have caused the materials to fall remain under investigation.
Officers with the Washington City Police Department provided an early update on the victim’s status, noting that he was alert when help arrived.
“Officials with the Washington City Police Department said the man was conscious and breathing at the scene.”
Paramedics transported the injured worker by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Authorities have not released information regarding the severity of his injuries.
“The man was transported by ambulance to the hospital. His exact condition or the nature of his injuries were not available.”
The construction site was temporarily secured while first responders assessed the situation and ensured no additional hazards were present.
Incidents involving trusses and bundled lumber are among the more dangerous risks on residential and commercial building sites. Industry safety guidelines require that heavy materials be properly braced and secured to prevent unexpected movement.

At this time, investigators have not said whether equipment failure, improper stacking or another factor contributed to the collapse. It also remains unclear whether the man was directly involved in moving the trusses or was struck while working nearby.
Community members expressed concern following the news, with one commenter writing, “Hopefully he is alright.”
The Washington City Police Department and local safety officials are expected to continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the accident. Further updates on the worker’s medical condition have not yet been made public.
Construction-related injuries remain a persistent issue across Utah and the broader U.S., particularly incidents involving falling materials. Trusses used in framing can weigh hundreds of pounds and often require cranes or multiple workers to maneuver safely. Experts recommend the use of tag lines, proper rigging and exclusion zones to reduce the risk of workers being struck.
Washington County has experienced rapid growth in recent years, with dozens of residential developments underway. The increase in building activity has heightened attention on jobsite safety and contractor training requirements.
Local officials encouraged any witnesses to share information that could help determine how the trusses became unstable. OSHA reporting requirements may also be triggered depending on the seriousness of the injuries.
