U.S. Rep. Don Bacon announced that Eppley Airfield has secured a $10 million FY26 Airport Infrastructure Grant to support the final phase of its terminal modernization project.

The funding will be used to reconstruct approximately 35,000 square feet of the existing terminal, including concourse and security checkpoint areas, arrival and departure gates, and international gates that have reached the end of their useful lives. The grant specifically supports construction of the pedestrian walkway, completing the Build OMA Terminal Modernization Program.

Throughout his time in Congress, Bacon has prioritized improvements at Eppley Airfield, helping secure more than $94.1 million through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and other federal funding sources. The investments are aimed at expanding capacity, improving inspection areas, and streamlining TSA and check-in processes.

“It has been thrilling to see the airport expansion construction take place and realize how much this will add to Omaha’s “entrance,” said Rep. Bacon. “This expansion will enable Eppley to meet the travel needs of the growing metropolitan Omaha area and welcome international flights. This transformation will shape our region’s future for many decades to come and will be vital for Omaha's economy. I'm pleased to work with the leaders at Eppley and Sen. Fischer in creating what will become the best airport in the Midwest.”

Eppley Airfield’s long-planned terminal modernization effort is moving closer to completion following the announcement of a $10 million FY26 Airport Infrastructure Grant, according to U.S. Rep. Don Bacon.

The funding will support reconstruction of 35,000 square feet of the airport’s aging terminal, including the concourse, security checkpoint, arrival and departure gates, and international gate areas. The grant funds the final phase of the project, which centers on construction of the pedestrian walkway connecting key terminal spaces.

Rep. Bacon said improvements to Eppley Airfield have been a major focus of his congressional work. To date, more than $94.1 million has been secured through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and other federal programs, helping modernize the airport and position it for future growth in passenger volume and international travel.

Sen. Deb Fischer also highlighted the statewide economic importance of the project.

“Eppley Airport is a critical gateway connecting Nebraskans to the rest of the country and the world. With this funding I secured alongside Rep. Bacon, we’re expanding Eppley’s global reach and strengthening Nebraska’s economy,” Fischer said.

The Omaha Airport Authority welcomed the announcement, noting the long-term benefits for travelers and the regional economy.

“The Omaha Airport Authority was pleased to be notified by Congressman Bacon’s office that Eppley Airfield will be receiving a grant for the Build OMA Terminal Modernization Program. We are happy to be the recipient of $10 million in Federal Aviation Administration funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act,” said Dave Roth, Chief Executive Officer of the Omaha Airport Authority. “This grant funding will create benefits for travelers from Omaha and throughout Nebraska. The funds will support continued improvements at Eppley Airfield including increased capacity, improved throughput, and an enhanced customer experience for decades to come.”

In addition to the Eppley funding, Bacon announced a separate Airport Improvement Program grant totaling $382,000 for Wahoo Municipal Airport. The funds will be used to construct a new 11,000-square-foot sponsor-owned hangar for aircraft storage and maintenance, helping the airport generate revenue and move toward greater self-sustainability. The project is eligible under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act’s expanded funding criteria and supports the construction phase of the development.
