Langworthy Announces $5.1M Pipeline Safety Grant for NY

Clarence, N.Y. — Congressman Nick Langworthy has announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has awarded the New York Department of Public Service a grant of $5,156,215 under its State Pipeline Safety Base Grant program.

The funding will cover up to 80 percent of the operating costs for New York’s natural gas pipeline inspection and enforcement program. This program is critical to ensuring that the state’s transmission and distribution pipelines remain safe, reliable, and compliant with state and federal standards.

Calling the grant a win for both safety and energy security, Congressman Langworthy emphasized the importance of natural gas to New York’s future.

“This grant is another clear demonstration of federal investment and support for natural gas as a clean, reliable, and safe form of energy. I am fighting to pass my legislation, the Energy Choice Act, to stop Kathy Hochul from her January 1, 2026 ban on natural gas and propane in all new home construction and new commercial construction under 10 stories,” Langworthy said.

He added that natural gas remains a cornerstone of New York’s economy and energy grid.

“Natural gas is essential to New York’s energy security and economic competitiveness, and ensuring the safety of our pipeline infrastructure is key to protecting communities while meeting growing energy needs. I will continue to fight for policies that recognize the critical role natural gas plays in powering our homes, businesses, and future.”

The PHMSA State Pipeline Safety Base Grant program plays a vital role in strengthening oversight of America’s energy infrastructure. Funds are used to support state inspectors, purchase equipment, and enhance enforcement efforts, ensuring that pipeline operators maintain the highest levels of safety.

Congressman Langworthy, who serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, represents New York’s 23rd Congressional District. His district includes parts or all of Niagara, Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler, and Tioga Counties.

This federal investment underscores the ongoing collaboration between Washington and New York State to maintain safe and efficient energy delivery systems while addressing the growing energy demands of households and businesses.
