North central Idaho construction company builds on legacy of quality, precision
Arnzen Building Construction, founded in 1987, has worked to build a positive reputation for excellence in both commercial and residential construction in north central Idaho.
The Cottonwood-based business launched when Morris and Julie Arnzen purchased Enneking Building Construction, which had roots dating to 1972. Morris, a native of Cottonwood who graduated from Prairie High School and attended the University of Idaho, was one of Enneking’s employees. He knew he had what it took to be an entrepreneur and wanted to build his career furthering the growth and longevity of Idaho communities.
Today, the company provides general contracting services, including new construction ― from bare ground to completion ― as well as renovations and tenant improvements. The company’s team works on a wide range of commercial projects which include hospitals, clinics, school facilities, retail businesses, business offices, warehouses, churches and much more. For the company’s residential division, the team builds new, custom homes, barns and shops, and others.
In February, the business was named as the Idaho Small Business of the Month by U.S. Senator Jim Risch.
“Morris Arnzen’s purchase of Arnzen Building Construction in 1987 has played a crucial role in the changing face of north central Idaho,” said Risch in a press release. “Arnzen Building Construction has expressed their commitment to high-quality construction and workmanship as a contributor to many of the area’s residential, commercial, educational, medical and public works projects.”
Over the course of its nearly four decades in business, the company has seen significant growth. What began with an office staffed by one to four full-time employees, today employs 21 people full-time, including an office staff, four superintendents and 16 other employees. Morris said that the company’s revenue has increased by 1,250%.
“I think what makes us unique is we are in a small town of 850 people and have accumulated the expertise in the office and in the field to do substantial projects in the region,” he said. “Our medical facilities construction capability and our company location gives us a different expertise than most other contractors in our region. Commercial construction is built to an exact specification, so we believe that the training and talent makes our residential projects better.”
When asked why the business is important to the future of Idaho, Morris said simply that it’s about creating more robust communities.
“Businesses like ours, small but efficient, bring good paying jobs to small communities,” he said. “We believe our projects reflect the tradition of quality expected in Idaho.”
There’s nothing but bright things on the horizon for Arnzen Building Construction, the company stated. The team plans to continue fostering relationships with each client so their project is completed on time and on budget.
“We have seen significant growth and are looking forward to doing it again over another 37 years,” Morris said. “The industry is ever-evolving and it is an exciting time as we continue to incorporate new ideas, products and skills to give our clients and communities the projects and final products they need.”
