The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is set to begin the rehabilitation of the Dutch Point Viaduct on Interstate 91 in Hartford in early 2025. Prior to construction, CTDOT will host an open house on Monday, January 13, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Center for Contemporary Culture at the Hartford Public Library, located at 500 Main St.
The open house will start at 6:00 p.m., with a formal presentation scheduled for 7:00 p.m. by CTDOT team members, who will discuss the phases of the upcoming construction project.
The Dutch Point Viaduct is an 1,800-foot-long elevated bridge carrying three lanes of southbound I-91 over the Connecticut Southern Railroad and the northbound I-91 ramps to and from the Whitehead Highway. The project area is located along the southbound viaduct section between the Connecticut Convention Center and the Colt Armory.
“This project ensures the Dutch Point Viaduct remains in a state of good repair and meets all of the latest federal standards,” said Juan Ruiz, Construction Engineer at CTDOT. “I hope the public joins us for our open house to learn more about this important project.”
The goal of the project is to improve the integrity of the bridge's structural elements, bringing it to current design standards, enhancing its load capacity, and extending its service life. As part of the reconstruction, the State Street on-ramp to southbound I-91 will be closed for about 18 months. This ramp closure and its detour are expected to begin in winter 2025, with project completion anticipated by fall 2026.
