NEW YORK, NY – Following the launch of its Excellence in Construction Leadership Program (ECLP) earlier this year, Skanska USA Building, a leading global construction and development firm, recently held its inaugural ECLP workshop and networking event. The ECLP is a nomination-based, executive-level program designed to unite Skanska USA Building’s leadership team with executives from local businesses to enhance diversity and inclusion within the construction industry supply chain. This innovative program is the first of its kind in the construction sector, focusing on nationwide peer-to-peer relationships with trade partners and building on the success of Skanska’s Construction Management Building Blocks Program (CMBB).
“The Excellence in Leadership Program at Skanska goes beyond developing individual skills — it’s about fostering leaders who understand the importance of building meaningful relationships with our diverse business partners and strengthening connections across our industry,” said Joycelyn Yue, National Director of Supplier Diversity at Skanska USA Building. “We had a very impactful two days, discussing how we can bolster our partnerships with local suppliers and small businesses, and in turn, strengthen the communities we operate in. By empowering our people to lead with integrity and collaboration, we ensure that every project reflects our commitment to inclusive growth and long-term impact.”
The two-day in-person development program featured sessions and workshops focused on healthy business growth, strategic planning, business plan development, leveraging AI and technology, and building high-performance teams. For instance, the General Manager’s roundtable facilitated team building as participants collaborated in groups to address real-world construction challenges.
The ECLP program aims to foster ongoing access, knowledge-sharing, and mutually beneficial relationships between Skanska and its diverse business partners, enhancing strategic connections with clients and community stakeholders. This engagement included the entire Skanska USA Building Executive Leadership Team and General Managers, a crucial aspect for facilitating market expansion and knowledge transfer for ECLP partners.
Attendees of the ECLP included participants from various regions, nominated and selected by Skanska’s general managers, account managers, business developers, and local Supplier Diversity team members based on their company values, leadership potential, and success in the local market. Since 2007, over 800 companies have participated in Skanska’s capacity-building programs, collectively securing more than $740 million in contracts on Skanska projects.
