Major Transportation Investment Begins in South Jersey

A $400 million highway expansion is moving into construction in South Jersey, targeting congestion and transportation reliability along a major regional corridor. STV joined the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) on Nov. 4, 2026, to mark the groundbreaking of the Atlantic City Expressway widening project.

The expressway serves approximately 66 million travellers annually and connects suburban, urban and coastal communities. The investment is intended to strengthen transportation links while supporting regional mobility and economic activity.

STV Provides Design and Engineering Services

STV and its project partners are delivering design services for roadway widening, bridge improvements, drainage work and environmental permitting. The engineering work is being coordinated with SJTA to address traffic operations and improve the corridor's long-term performance.

The project includes additional lanes intended to reduce traffic density and improve traffic flow through the Atlantic City Expressway and Route 42 interchange. The improvements are expected to strengthen travel reliability for commuters, businesses and other highway users.

Regional Infrastructure and Project Delivery

The Atlantic City Expressway is a key east-west transportation route in South Jersey. Its expansion represents a major investment in highway capacity and regional connectivity.

STV's transportation portfolio includes highway, bridge, aviation, rail and transit projects. The company has also worked on major infrastructure initiatives in the Northeast, including the Alexander Hamilton Bridge Interchange, Palisades Interstate Parkway and Newark Bay Bridge.

Why It Matters

The widening project addresses capacity and traffic-flow needs on a corridor used by millions of travellers each year. For transportation agencies, contractors and regional businesses, the investment creates a major infrastructure construction programme focused on roadway performance, safety and connectivity.
