Five-Year Funding Commitment Supports Pediatric Care

Corporate investment in community health infrastructure and pediatric treatment programs remains an important part of construction industry outreach. Sundt Construction has pledged an additional $1 million over five years to Phoenix Children’s to support its Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.

The commitment was announced during an event at the Phoenix-based hospital. Funding will contribute to the center’s treatment and research activities, extending a partnership that has included financial contributions, fundraising initiatives and employee volunteer programs.

Since 2021, Sundt’s total support for Phoenix Children’s has exceeded $1.4 million.

Big Dig for Kids Raises More Than $4 Million

Sundt's partnership with Phoenix Children’s also includes its involvement in Big Dig for Kids, an annual construction-themed fundraising event established in 2016.

The initiative gives pediatric patients an opportunity to experience construction equipment and participate in activities at a designated construction site. Sundt remains the event’s title sponsor and a founding board member.

Since its launch, Big Dig for Kids has raised more than $4 million for the hospital’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and provided experiences for more than 8,100 children.

The 2025 event brought together more than 2,000 participants, 500 volunteers, 60 pieces of construction equipment and 91 sponsors and donors. The next edition is scheduled for Nov. 7, 2026.

Hospital Improvements and Employee Volunteer Support

Previous contributions from Sundt have supported improvements to Phoenix Children’s cancer treatment facilities. Funding helped expand the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders Infusion Center with six private rooms and a quick-infusion bay. Contributions also supported improvements to the chemotherapy pharmacy and clinical research activities.

Beyond financial commitments, Sundt employee-owners have provided more than 500 volunteer hours at the hospital. Activities have included seasonal celebrations, arts and crafts programs and construction-themed birthday events.

Why It Matters

Sundt’s commitment demonstrates how construction companies can contribute to community institutions beyond their core building operations. The funding supports pediatric treatment and research, while the fundraising event connects construction equipment, industry participation and community engagement to a long-term healthcare partnership.
