A $5.5 million commercial development planned for Wyoming will bring a new dental office and a potential drive-thru restaurant to a high-traffic corridor near M-6, according to project details submitted to the city.
The two-building project is proposed for 2.83 acres of undeveloped land at 5640 Wilson Ave. SW, near the intersection of Wilson Avenue and 56th Street. Developers say the site’s proximity to major roadways and established commercial destinations made it an attractive location for new investment.

Construction is expected to begin this spring on the first phase of the development: a 7,480-square-foot building that will serve as the new home of Infinity Dental Grandville. The dental provider is currently operating nearby at 4565 Wilson Ave. SW and plans to relocate once the new facility is completed.
A second building, planned at approximately 10,000 square feet, will feature up to seven retail and office suites. Plans for that structure include space for a drive-thru restaurant, though tenants have not yet been finalized.
Developer Matt Van Woerkom, of Element Property Solutions, said construction on the multi-tenant building will move forward once leasing reaches the halfway mark.
Van Woerkom added that the Wyoming Planning Commission approved the project’s site plans on Dec. 16, including the special land use permit required for a drive-thru restaurant.

The development will offer access points from both Wilson Avenue and 56th Street and sits within a mile of M-6 on- and off-ramps, positioning it near other commercial hubs such as Costco.
Design plans submitted to the city indicate the buildings will feature a combination of brick and vinyl siding for the exterior.
Van Woerkom said the site stood out because of its traffic volume and long-term growth potential tied to ongoing development along the M-6 corridor.
“Seeing the development that’s going on along the M-6 corridor alone, I feel like this is another phase towards that continued development,” Van Woerkom told MLive/The Grand Rapids Press.
While the project has drawn interest, it has also raised some concerns. During a public hearing held by the planning commission, one nearby resident expressed worries about increased traffic in what is largely a residential area.
Van Woerkom responded that traffic impacts should be limited, noting that the drive-thru will not connect directly to a main thoroughfare.
Journey Construction Group, based in Jenison, will serve as the project’s general contractor, with Andrew Baer listed as the architect.
