Compliance with prevailing wage and workforce requirements remains a significant administrative responsibility for contractors performing public works in California. Associated Builders & Contractors San Diego is holding a seminar focused on wage rules, workforce documentation, enforcement exposure and internal compliance practices.
The Prevailing Wage Essentials for California Contractors seminar is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 28, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Associated Builders & Contractors San Diego's facility at 13825 Kirkham Way in Poway, California.
The program will address the federal Davis-Bacon Act and California prevailing wage requirements applicable to public works. Topics include coverage, wage determinations, contractor and subcontractor responsibilities, and compliance obligations.
The session will also examine California's Safe Harbor provisions and their role in managing potential liability associated with prevailing wage compliance.
Another portion of the seminar focuses on AB 889 and Skilled and Trained Workforce requirements. The discussion includes workforce documentation and contractor responsibilities associated with public works projects.
The program also covers practical compliance procedures, including preparation for audits and investigations, internal controls and common compliance errors.
Enforcement trends and lessons from investigations will be addressed as part of the risk-management portion of the session. The program is intended to help construction companies identify potential compliance issues before they result in penalties or project-related exposure.
Prevailing wage requirements can affect payroll administration, subcontractor oversight, workforce documentation and project profitability on public works contracts. Training that brings wage rules and workforce requirements together can be particularly relevant for companies managing multiple compliance obligations.
The seminar is aimed at company owners, compliance advisers, HR professionals and payroll and accounting personnel. Registration is listed at $225 for ABC members and $375 for nonmembers.
Lunch is provided, and attendees are instructed to use the parking lot behind the ABC San Diego building. Cancellations must be received at least 48 business hours before the class to qualify for a refund.
