A new wave of high-value construction activity is taking shape across Alabama, with 17 building permits exceeding $1 million issued in the past week. Among them, a long-awaited self-storage facility project in Alabaster stands out as one of the most notable developments.

Five of the newly approved permits are located within the Birmingham metro area, reflecting continued growth and investment in one of the state’s busiest construction markets.
The Alabaster project, valued at approximately $6.8 million, marks a significant milestone after nearly four years in the planning stages. The development will be built on a 3.2-acre site at 100 Little Street, just off Highway 119.
The property, acquired by Boomer Adamsville LLC in 2018, is set to be developed into a modern self-storage facility. The building permit for the project was issued to Martin Commercial LLC, which is also listed as the project owner.
This project reflects growing demand for storage solutions in suburban markets, driven by population growth, residential mobility, and increasing small business needs.
Beyond Alabaster, several other large-scale projects received approval across key cities, including Birmingham, Auburn, Decatur, and Huntsville.
In Birmingham, major institutional and industrial developments led the way. A nearly $7.9 million project tied to the Alabama State Board of Education and a $3.29 million project for the University of Alabama at Birmingham highlight continued investment in education infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Decatur recorded some of the highest-value permits, including a $16.7 million state project and an $8.9 million industrial development linked to Meow Mix production operations. These projects underscore the region’s importance as a manufacturing and logistics hub.
The city of Auburn also saw a cluster of new permits, particularly in residential and mixed-use construction. Multiple projects from BC Stone Homes LLC and Landmark Cottage Construction AL LLC signal sustained housing demand in the area.
These developments, ranging from $1.5 million to nearly $5 million, indicate ongoing expansion in both single-family and cottage-style housing segments.
In Huntsville, a $1.36 million project connected to Boeing highlights continued defense and aerospace-related investment in the region, which has become a critical hub for advanced manufacturing and engineering.
The data for these projects was compiled by Report Construction LLC, which tracks building permits across the state to provide insights into emerging construction trends.
By aggregating permit data weekly, the firm offers a snapshot of where investment is flowing and which sectors are experiencing the most growth.
The latest batch of permits reflects a diverse mix of development, including residential housing, education facilities, industrial plants, and commercial storage infrastructure.
