Growing demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure continues to drive large-scale construction activity across the United States, with Amazon's latest investment adding another major data center project to the Midwest pipeline. The company announced plans to develop a $10 billion data center campus in Montgomery County, Missouri, marking one of the largest private technology infrastructure investments disclosed in the state.

The planned campus will be located in Montgomery County near Montgomery City and is intended to support expanding cloud and digital infrastructure requirements. Amazon expects the project to generate roughly 400 direct operational jobs once completed, while construction activities are anticipated to support thousands of workers during development.
The investment represents a significant addition to Missouri's growing data center market and follows continued expansion of hyperscale computing facilities across the country as technology companies increase capacity for cloud services and AI workloads.
Alongside the construction program, Amazon announced more than $7 million in community-focused investments. Planned funding includes support for emergency dispatch services, community facilities and local programs, as well as a grant fund for county projects.
Amazon also stated that it will cover the full cost of providing electric service connections for the campus, including grid interconnection expenses. State officials noted that Missouri recently adopted policies requiring large-load utility customers, including data centers, to bear costs associated with serving those facilities.
The company further announced collaboration with agricultural technology provider Arable Labs on irrigation-efficiency initiatives intended to reduce groundwater withdrawals and lower water consumption in the region. Amazon indicated the effort could reduce water use by approximately 100 million gallons. (Department of Economic Development)
The Missouri project reflects broader growth in data center construction as technology providers invest heavily in infrastructure supporting cloud computing, AI applications and digital services. Large-scale facilities increasingly require substantial power, utility and site-development work, creating opportunities for contractors involved in civil construction, electrical systems, mechanical installations and mission-critical building programs.
For construction owners, developers and specialty contractors, projects of this scale can generate long-term demand across site preparation, utility upgrades, building construction and ongoing facility expansion phases. The Montgomery County development also highlights the growing role of state and local partnerships in attracting major digital infrastructure investments while addressing energy, water and community considerations.
