Maintaining aging bridge infrastructure remains a priority for transportation agencies seeking to improve roadway safety and network reliability. Ames Construction, working with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), has completed interim structural repairs on the flyover bridge connecting southbound Santa Fe Drive (US 85) to eastbound C-470 in Douglas County, Colorado.
The work restored structural integrity at a key bridge support while allowing the interchange to remain operational for most of the construction period.
Construction crews replaced the pier cap and supporting column at Pier 7, restoring structural capacity at the affected section of the bridge. Additional work included installing temporary shoring and structural monitoring equipment, completing concrete repairs and reconnecting the repaired components to the existing bridge structure.
The repair program began in February and was delivered in phases to minimize traffic disruptions. A planned seven-day closure of the flyover ramp allowed crews to complete concrete placement and provide sufficient curing time before the bridge reopened to motorists.
Project sequencing enabled traffic to continue using the interchange throughout most of construction while targeted closures supported critical structural work.
