A major building materials supplier has expanded its corporate presence in Chicago, adding to ongoing investment activity tied to construction materials, infrastructure development, and manufacturing operations in Illinois.
Amrize officially opened its new headquarters in downtown Chicago, establishing the city as the operational center for the company’s North American business. The move strengthens Illinois’ position as a regional hub for construction materials production, logistics, and infrastructure-related business operations.
Amrize committed to investing approximately $18.6 million as part of the headquarters expansion. State officials said the project includes the creation of 50 new full-time positions and retention of 62 existing jobs under an incentive agreement supported through Illinois’ Economic Development for a Growing Economy, or EDGE, program.
The company currently employs more than 450 workers across Illinois and operates 15 facilities statewide.
Amrize supplies construction materials and building products across infrastructure, commercial, and residential sectors. Its operations include cement manufacturing, aggregates production, ready-mix concrete, and commercial roofing services.
The Chicago headquarters will support management and operational oversight for more than 1,000 company sites across the United States and Canada.
Illinois officials cited the state’s transportation network, labor availability, and access to supply chains as factors supporting continued corporate investment in the Chicago market.
Amrize projects and materials have contributed to several infrastructure and public space developments in Chicago, including work associated with the Chicago Riverwalk, Maggie Daley Park, and the 606 Trail.
The headquarters announcement follows broader economic development activity in Illinois tied to manufacturing, logistics, and infrastructure-related industries. State officials reported that companies participating in the EDGE incentive program this year have collectively committed billions of dollars in planned investments statewide.
The expansion reflects continued demand for construction materials suppliers serving transportation, commercial, residential, and public infrastructure markets across North America.
Building materials manufacturers and suppliers remain critical to large-scale infrastructure and private development activity, particularly as transportation upgrades, mixed-use projects, and industrial construction programs continue across major metropolitan markets.
Chicago’s role as a transportation and logistics center also supports regional distribution and operational management for national construction supply chains.
For contractors, developers, and construction owners, the headquarters investment signals continued long-term activity in the building materials sector at a time when infrastructure and commercial construction demand remains elevated.
The expansion may also support additional procurement opportunities for suppliers, transportation providers, and construction service firms connected to materials production, distribution, and facility operations throughout the Midwest construction market.
