Construction workforce development efforts continue to focus on attracting the next generation of skilled professionals, with contractors supporting hands-on educational programs that introduce young students to careers in the building trades. LeChase Construction recently participated in one such initiative in New York's Capital Region.
Employees from LeChase Construction's Capital Region office volunteered during the Girls Construction Summer Camp organized by the Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition (NCTWC) in partnership with Whitbeck Construction.
The program is intended to expose young girls to career opportunities in construction through practical learning experiences and interaction with industry professionals.
During the three-week camp, participants completed a variety of construction-related projects designed to build foundational trade skills.
Activities included constructing wooden toolboxes, assembling dodecahedrons, creating mosaic tile tabletops, and other hands-on building exercises that introduce students to basic construction techniques and craftsmanship.
By working directly with volunteers from the construction industry, participants gained exposure to the skills, tools, and career paths available within the trades.
The construction industry continues to prioritize workforce development as contractors seek to address long-term labor shortages and expand workforce diversity. Programs that introduce students to construction careers at an early age can help strengthen future talent pipelines while increasing awareness of opportunities across the skilled trades.
