ARCO Design/Build has started construction on a new manufacturing facility for OPW in Smithfield, North Carolina, supporting the fuel equipment manufacturer's plans to expand production capacity and meet growing customer demand.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on July 17, marks another industrial investment in Johnston County as OPW, a Dover company specializing in retail fueling and fluid-handling equipment, expands its manufacturing footprint adjacent to its existing Smithfield operation.
The new facility will enable OPW to expand operations at its current campus while improving manufacturing capacity to support future business growth. By building next to its existing plant, the company aims to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen its long-term presence in North Carolina.
ARCO said its integrated design-build delivery model provided OPW with greater certainty around project cost, schedule and execution, helping the manufacturer accelerate its expansion plans.
The project also reinforces Johnston County's position as a growing advanced manufacturing hub, with ARCO citing its experience completing 22 industrial projects totaling more than 4.4 million square feet across the county.
ARCO was selected for the project based on its technical expertise and ability to deliver an accelerated construction schedule. The company noted that its design-build approach offered an integrated project delivery model that aligned with OPW's production and growth objectives.
The manufacturing expansion is expected to strengthen OPW's ability to serve customers while supporting continued industrial investment and economic development in the Smithfield region.
OPW manufactures retail fueling equipment, containment systems and dispensing products used in commercial and retail fueling applications worldwide. The expansion is designed to position the company for continued growth while supporting manufacturing operations in Johnston County.
