A major sports venue redevelopment in Charlotte is moving forward with additional private investment following a long-term naming rights extension between Bank of America and the Carolina Panthers. The agreement accompanies an expanded renovation program for Bank of America Stadium, increasing the total project investment to more than $1.3 billion while construction continues without interrupting scheduled sporting events.

The modernization project is intended to enhance the stadium's long-term role as a venue for professional sports, concerts and year-round community events.

Renovation Scope Expands with Additional Private Investment

Tepper Sports & Entertainment has elected to proceed with all previously proposed owner-funded improvements, increasing the overall renovation value beyond $1.3 billion. The organization will also assume responsibility for project cost overruns and future maintenance obligations under its agreement with the City of Charlotte.

The city's financial commitment remains capped at $650 million.

Planned improvements include expanded indoor and outdoor gathering areas, upgraded seating options, larger video displays, enhanced technology systems, additional food and beverage offerings, increased restroom capacity and flexible event spaces designed to support both sporting events and non-game activities.

The redevelopment also includes a planned 4,400-seat entertainment venue expected to host a wide range of events throughout the year.

Construction Continues While Stadium Remains Operational

Construction is being delivered in phases to allow Bank of America Stadium to continue hosting Carolina Panthers NFL games and Charlotte FC Major League Soccer matches during the renovation program.

Interior construction activities are underway during 2026, with improvements affecting fan-accessible areas scheduled to begin in 2027.

Updated architectural renderings show exterior enhancements, including new façade materials and an illuminated rooftop feature, along with design elements intended to reflect the character of the Carolinas.

Why It Matters

Large-scale stadium modernization projects continue to generate significant construction opportunities in specialty trades, structural upgrades, technology integration and public-private infrastructure delivery. For construction owners, contractors and developers, the Bank of America Stadium redevelopment demonstrates continued investment in extending the service life of existing sports venues while expanding their use as year-round entertainment and community assets.
