Construction Dive’s latest Punch List roundup underscores continued momentum in both commercial and infrastructure sectors, as contractors secure new work and advance high-profile developments nationwide.

Barton Malow Advances Historic Ballpark Renovation

Southfield, Michigan-based Barton Malow marked a key milestone by completing Phase 1 renovations at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach. The announcement coincided with Jackie Robinson Day, which honors the anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947.

The historic ballpark, originally constructed in 1914 and the site of Robinson’s 1946 spring training debut, underwent significant upgrades as part of the initial phase. Today, the venue serves as home to the Daytona Tortugas, a Single-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.

Completed improvements include a new player development facility, upgraded clubhouses, team stores, indoor batting cages and enhanced seating areas. The project also delivered infrastructure upgrades and improved accessibility, including parking enhancements. Additional phases are planned to further modernize the stadium.

Jacobs, Bechtel and KTGY Report Key Developments

Dallas-based Jacobs secured two infrastructure-related assignments from the Illinois Department of Transportation along the I-290 Eisenhower Expressway corridor in Chicago.

The first project involves design and project management for the Indiana Harbor Belt railroad bridge replacement, where Jacobs will employ accelerated construction staging to reduce disruption to freight operations. The second contract covers construction oversight and inspection services for a supplemental storm sewer installation beneath the interstate, utilizing advanced underground tunneling methods.

Meanwhile, Bechtel continues to make progress on the Port Arthur LNG project in Jefferson County. The firm is advancing both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the multibillion-dollar development, which includes liquefaction trains expected to come online in 2027 and 2028. Once complete, the facility will have a total capacity of approximately 26 million tonnes per annum of liquefied natural gas.

As part of its Gulf Coast operations, Bechtel has also introduced a new safety initiative requiring employees in their first three months onsite to wear distinct hard hats. The approach is designed to improve communication, increase supervision and reinforce safe work practices among newer workers.

In the design sector, KTGY announced the appointment of William Bate as its new CEO. Bate joins the firm from Boston Consulting Group, where he served as managing director and partner, leading its North America Real Estate and Cities practice.

“I’m honored to join KTGY at such an exciting moment in its journey,” Bate said in a statement. “This is a firm with a strong legacy and a clear sense of purpose.”

Based in Irvine, KTGY specializes in architecture, interior design and urban planning across sectors including multifamily housing, mixed-use developments and hospitality projects. Bate succeeds longtime CEO Trica Esser, who had led the firm since 2006.

The week’s developments reflect continued investment and activity across construction markets, from historic renovation projects to large-scale infrastructure and energy developments, as well as leadership changes shaping the industry’s future direction.
