A new medical office building is set to expand MedStar Shah Medical Group's healthcare campus in Waldorf, Maryland, with BBL Construction Services leading construction of the 10,500-square-foot facility.
The groundbreaking marks another project between BBL and MedStar Shah Medical Group. BBL previously constructed the group's existing St. Patrick's Drive facility, which opened in 2020.
The new facility will provide 29 exam rooms and will be constructed alongside the existing medical building. The two structures will be connected to create a consolidated medical campus for the medical group.
The expansion will increase the group's available clinical space while allowing the new and existing facilities to function as a connected campus. The project is designed to support continued medical services in the Waldorf community.
The development also includes site and access improvements intended to improve circulation between the two buildings.
In addition to the new medical office building, the project will provide shared access between the facilities, updated parking and improved walkways for patients and visitors.
The site improvements are intended to integrate the new building with the existing property rather than treating the expansion as a standalone facility. Connecting the two buildings will create a more unified medical campus while accommodating additional exam and support space.
For healthcare owners and contractors, the project reflects the construction requirements associated with expanding an operating medical campus. New clinical space must be coordinated with existing facilities, site circulation and patient access.
BBL's previous work for MedStar Shah Medical Group also provides continuity between the original facility and the new development, giving the construction team experience with the healthcare provider's existing campus.
