Construction companies continue expanding workforce development programs to address growing demand for skilled craft professionals. Bechtel has completed the second year of its Camp Build It initiative, introducing middle and high school students in South Texas to careers in construction through hands-on training and industry exposure.
Bechtel delivered the weeklong summer program in partnership with the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend, offering two camp sessions between July 6 and July 17.
The program enrolled 60 students, more than doubling participation from the previous year. Participants gained practical experience in welding, pipefitting and electrical installation while interacting with women working in construction and skilled trades.
The camp also supports Bechtel's commitment to increasing female participation in the construction workforce through industry workforce initiatives.
The program concluded with a visit to Bechtel's Corpus Christi Liquefaction Stage 3 project, providing students with firsthand exposure to large-scale industrial construction.
Bechtel partnered with local workforce organizations and educational institutions to connect students with career pathways in construction and strengthen the regional talent pipeline supporting Gulf Coast energy and infrastructure projects.
Construction owners, contractors and developers continue to face skilled labor shortages across multiple trades. Early workforce engagement programs help introduce students to construction careers while expanding future recruitment opportunities. Partnerships between contractors, training organizations and educational institutions can strengthen regional labor pipelines that support large infrastructure and industrial projects.
