Recognition programs highlighting leadership across construction organizations continue to underscore the importance of operational and administrative professionals in supporting project delivery. Berghammer Construction announced that Director of Accounting Wendy Phalin has been named the 2026 Daily Reporter Women in Construction Unsung Hero of the Year.
The award recognizes contributions made behind the scenes to strengthen company operations and support business performance.
Phalin joined Berghammer Construction in 1996 as an accountant and has advanced through several leadership roles during her tenure. She was promoted to controller in 2007 and became director of accounting in 2012.
Her responsibilities extend beyond financial management to include payroll administration, information systems management, software licensing, employee wellness program coordination and company event planning. She also provides operational support to project teams and mentors accounting staff.
In addition to her leadership responsibilities, Phalin serves on Berghammer Construction's Executive Management Team and participates in the company's Senior Associate Program.
The Daily Reporter Women in Construction Awards recognize professionals who make significant contributions to Wisconsin's construction industry. The Unsung Hero category honors individuals whose leadership and operational support help strengthen their organizations, often outside traditional project management or field roles.
Construction companies depend on experienced professionals in finance, operations and administration to support project execution, workforce management and business performance. Industry recognition programs help highlight the contributions of these teams while reinforcing the importance of leadership development and employee retention across construction organizations.
