Berglund Construction Expands Regional Impact with Community-Driven Projects

From its humble beginnings on Chicago’s South Side, Berglund Construction has grown into a nationally recognized construction firm that has never lost sight of its community-focused roots. With a strong and growing presence in Northwest Indiana, the company is delivering projects that combine innovation with preservation, while fostering partnerships that strengthen local infrastructure.

“Our focus is partnering with clients to transform communities through innovative construction and preservation,” said Jeff Berglund, Building Division President and Chief Growth Officer.
The company’s history in masonry restoration—particularly facades and tuckpointing—remains a cornerstone of its identity, even as it continues to expand into new construction, interior renovations, and large-scale institutional projects. Today, with seven offices spread across five states, Berglund Construction remains deeply engaged in Lake, Porter, and La Porte Counties, where its impact is most visible.
“We love working in the Region, and Indiana will probably always be our most active market,” Berglund said. “What matters most is aligning with the right clients and projects where we can make a real impact.”
That impact can be seen across a wide range of recent projects. In Valparaiso, Berglund completed construction of the new Journeyman Distillery, blending craftsmanship with modern design to bring new life to the downtown economy. At Purdue University Northwest in Hammond, the company is leading construction of a new residence hall, a transformative project supporting the university’s shift from a commuter-based campus to a more residential community. This project builds on Berglund’s earlier work on the Bioscience Innovation Building, further establishing its role as a long-term partner in higher education.
In Gary, Berglund is developing the Tolleston Opportunity Campus, in collaboration with Crossroads YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Northwest Indiana. This project is designed as a hub for education, wellness, and youth engagement, embodying Berglund’s mission of building more than just physical spaces. Similarly, in Chesterton, the company is advancing construction of the Duneland Family YMCA Healthy Living Campus, further underscoring its commitment to enhancing health and wellness infrastructure in the region.

“We’re not just here to build buildings, we want to help shape the future of the communities we serve,” Berglund said.
That dedication has been recognized industry-wide. The firm was recently nominated for 2025 Contractor of the Year by the Construction Advancement Foundation, a testament to its strong portfolio and client-first philosophy.
“It was really cool to see our team recognized like this,” Berglund said. “It speaks to the great projects we’ve been part of and the strong relationships we’ve built by being involved from day one.”
Looking ahead, Berglund is focused not on rapid expansion, but on cultivating strategic growth rooted in quality partnerships and impactful projects.
“Our 10-year vision is simple,” Berglund said. “We want every interaction with Berglund Construction—whether it’s a document, a short meeting, or a long project – to be a 10 out of 10 experience.”
As the company balances its historic foundation with forward-looking growth, Berglund Construction is positioning itself as more than a builder—it is a community partner shaping the fabric of Northwest Indiana and beyond.
