CHICAGO, Ill. — Berglund Construction has completed a specialized urban landscape installation in downtown Chicago, using cranes to place mature trees into a busy public plaza. The project, performed in partnership with Twin Oaks Landscaping, required detailed planning and coordination to safely execute construction activities within one of the city's most active environments.
The installation involved lifting mature trees by crane and precisely positioning them into designated planting locations while managing pedestrian traffic, surrounding buildings, limited staging space, and ongoing city activity. The operation required close coordination between crane operators, construction crews, city agencies, and project stakeholders.
Unlike conventional landscaping projects, the downtown installation demanded extensive logistical planning due to constrained work areas and continuous public activity. Project teams coordinated equipment access, delivery schedules, rigging operations, and safety procedures to minimize disruption while maintaining safe working conditions throughout the installation.
Berglund said the project demonstrated the importance of detailed planning, communication, and adaptability when performing construction work in highly visible urban settings.
According to Project Executive Jeff Burandt, the team worked closely with crane operators, site leadership, local businesses, and city agencies to safely complete the installation while navigating surrounding traffic, pedestrians, and active site conditions.
The completed installation showcases Berglund Construction's ability to deliver technically demanding projects beyond traditional building construction. By combining specialized lifting operations with careful site coordination, the team successfully installed mature landscaping elements in a confined downtown location.
The company said the project reflects the technical expertise of its construction workforce and trade partners in completing complex work safely while maintaining project quality in challenging urban environments.
