TYLER, Texas — A new BJ’s Wholesale Club is set to bring another big-box retail option to East Texas as construction begins early next year on the membership-based retailer’s Tyler location.
According to a recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, construction will begin January 20, 2026, at 8667 S. Broadway Ave., across from Academy Sports and the Village at Cumberland Park near the Cumberland Road intersection. The $9 million project is expected to wrap up around June 20, 2026.
Once complete, the new 106,059-square-foot retail warehouse will feature BJ’s signature wide aisles, bulk goods, and value-based pricing designed for both families and small businesses.
The Tyler City Council gave the project the green light earlier this year, approving a zoning change and special use permit to allow for fuel sales on the site.
BJ’s expansion into Tyler represents the company’s broader growth strategy in Texas. A BJ’s representative previously confirmed that four additional locations are already under construction in Forney, Waxahachie, Grand Prairie, and Fort Worth.
The Massachusetts-based retailer continues to scale operations beyond its East Coast stronghold as it competes with Costco and Sam’s Club for market share in rapidly growing suburban regions.
Founded in 1984, BJ’s pioneered the warehouse club model in New England and has since expanded to operate 255 clubs and 190 BJ’s Gas locations across 21 states. Its Texas footprint has been increasing steadily as demand for affordable bulk goods and household essentials continues to rise.
According to the company, the upcoming Tyler location will feature fresh produce, a full-service deli, bakery, and meat department, along with household essentials, electronics, apparel, and seasonal home décor.
The club will also include BJ’s Gas, offering members discounted fuel prices, and self-checkout technology to speed up shopping trips.
BJ’s positions itself as a value-driven alternative to other warehouse chains, promoting savings through its membership-based model and digital coupons via its mobile app.
“Our goal has always been to provide families with quality products and unbeatable value, while making shopping as convenient and enjoyable as possible,” the company states on its website.
The new Tyler location is expected to attract significant consumer traffic to the already-busy Cumberland Park corridor, a growing commercial hub that includes major retailers, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
City officials have noted that projects like BJ’s bring additional sales tax revenue and job opportunities for local residents, further fueling Tyler’s retail development.
With site preparation beginning in early 2026, construction is on track for the grand opening in summer 2026, positioning BJ’s as one of the city’s most anticipated retail additions in recent years.
