Boise Airport Announces Major Expansion with New Concourse and Renovations
Boise Airport is undergoing a significant expansion to accommodate growing passenger traffic. The project includes the construction of a brand new Concourse A, renovation of the existing Concourse B, and potential upgrades to the main terminal building.
New Course A: Add 10 Gates
The centerpiece of the expansion is the new Concourse A, which will add ten new gates to the airport. The concourse will be located on the west side of the airport and will connect to the main terminal via a skybridge featuring the airport's first moving walkway. Designed to handle mid-size aircraft, the new concourse will improve passenger flow and reduce congestion.
Concourse B to Get Modernization Makeover
Following the completion of Concourse A, Concourse B will receive a much-needed renovation. Built in the mid-1990s, Concourse B will be upgraded with larger waiting areas, new concession spaces, additional restrooms, and other modern amenities.
Main Terminal Expansion: a Possibility
The future may hold even more improvements for Boise Airport. The project proposal includes a potential expansion of the main terminal building. This expansion could involve adding more ticket counters, renovating existing ones to accommodate multiple airlines, and upgrading the baggage handling system. An additional security checkpoint expansion is also on the table, following the recent completion of a separate checkpoint expansion project.
Project Funding and Timeline
The Boise Airport expansion is funded through the airport's own revenue streams, including passenger fees and concession contracts. The project timeline is dependent on continued passenger growth and the availability of funds.
Fentress Architects, known for their work on airports in Nashville, Portland, and Charleston, will lead the design team, along with Boise-based firms ZGA Architects, Cator Ruma, and The Land Group. The city council has approved a contract with Fentress Architects for up to $42.46 million over five years.
This expansion project signifies a commitment by the Boise Airport to enhance the passenger experience and accommodate the growing air travel demands of the region.
