Boise State Breaks Ground on ESI Construction Management Building

Boise State University, in partnership with Engineered Structures Inc. (ESI), has officially begun construction of the new ESI Construction Management Building. This state-of-the-art facility will provide a dedicated space for educating students in Idaho’s booming construction industry, equipping them with the skills necessary for critical roles in the sector.

“We build stronger, more creative, more resilient, and smarter people at Boise State. This building will help us build a stronger Idaho,” said Boise State President Dr. Marlene Tromp, speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony.
The new building will be designed to enhance Boise State's construction management program, which has seen a remarkable 80% increase in student enrollment over the last six years. With an exceptional 100% job placement rate, the program has consistently produced graduates who are highly sought after by the construction industry. In fact, over 90 companies actively recruit Boise State’s graduates, and more than 40 companies sit on the program's advisory board.

“Through this program, I’ve built some of the best connections,” said Grant Gustafson, president of the Construction Management Association student club. “This building represents the heart of what makes this program so special.”
The building, which will feature the latest in construction technology, will include classrooms, offices, a high bay with an overhead crane, and several collaborative spaces. Notably, it will be the first building on campus to exclusively use mass timber, a sustainable material donated by Boise Cascade. The design team for the building is also groundbreaking—comprising 12 women, making it a notable achievement in both the construction and academic fields.
Industry leaders, including ESI President Neil Nelson, a Boise State alumnus, expressed pride in the program’s impact. “I couldn’t be more proud of my CM degree and the relationships it has fostered,” he said.
Boise State’s new ESI Construction Management Building will play a vital role in preparing students to make a lasting impact in the thriving construction sector, helping them to grow, connect, and become industry leaders.
