A construction-industry workplace simulation in Birmingham is giving students an opportunity to explore professional roles and career pathways through hands-on learning. Brasfield & Gorrie is participating in JA BizTown at the Junior Achievement McWane Economic Education Center, adding a simulated version of its office environment to the educational program.
The Brasfield & Gorrie storefront is designed to replicate a working office environment. Through the simulation, students can take on workplace responsibilities, learn about professional roles and gain experience with how organizations operate.
The initiative provides an early introduction to the construction industry at a time when contractors and other businesses continue to focus on developing future talent. Students are exposed to workplace concepts through an environment that connects classroom preparation with practical activities.
JA BizTown is part of the Junior Achievement McWane Economic Education Center, which combines classroom instruction with immersive learning experiences focused on career readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship.
The McWane Economic Education Center opened in Birmingham in June 2026. The $18 million, 30,000-square-foot facility includes JA BizTown and JA Finance Park and is designed to provide hands-on learning experiences for approximately 20,000 middle and high school students across central Alabama.
JA BizTown uses an interactive city-style setting where students can experience business and workplace responsibilities. JA Finance Park focuses on financial decision-making and related real-world skills.
Brasfield & Gorrie’s participation adds construction-industry representation to the center’s career exploration activities. Students can gain a clearer understanding of potential roles within a construction organization while developing workplace skills in a controlled educational setting.
For contractors, workforce development programs such as JA BizTown provide a way to introduce students to industry careers before they enter the labor market. Early exposure can help connect education with professional opportunities and give students a broader understanding of the types of work available across the construction sector.
