Brett Martin Expands to U.S. with New Wisconsin Plant

Caroline Raffetto

Mallusk-headquartered construction material manufacturer Brett Martin has announced a major international milestone with the opening of its first-ever U.S. manufacturing facility in De-Pere, Wisconsin.

The new 48,000-square-foot plant, built on a greenfield site, is being established as a joint venture with Amerilux International, one of Brett Martin’s leading U.S. distribution partners. Operating under the name APC (American Polycarbonate Company), the facility will manufacture Multiwall and Corrugated Polycarbonate roofing sheets, serving a wide range of construction and industrial sectors across the U.S. The plant is scheduled to commence production later this year.

Paul Martin, Brett Martin Group Director, explained the strategic importance of the move:

“We have been exporting successfully to the USA for more than 25 years. Together with our partner Amerilux, we identified an opportunity to add a US manufacturing presence that will enhance our service to the market and open up new opportunities that build on the success of our Mallusk operations.”

He further emphasized that the decision was not influenced by recent U.S. tariff policies but by long-term business strategy:

“Our decision was taken well before recent US tariffs were introduced. While tariffs are relevant for any exporter, our motivation was above all driven by long-term market growth potential, the strength of our partnership with Amerilux, and the opportunities we see for Brett Martin products in North America. As an international business, we must remain forward-looking and agile. This investment is about growth, complementing our strong base in Mallusk, and ensuring Brett Martin remains competitive in a rapidly changing global market.”

The expansion represents a pivotal step in Brett Martin’s global growth strategy, strengthening its presence in North America while maintaining a robust base in Northern Ireland. The company, which employs over 1,000 people and generates annual sales of £220 million, is already one of Europe’s largest producers of plastic sheets, exporting to more than 70 countries worldwide.

Industry experts note that by localizing production in the U.S., Brett Martin can improve lead times, reduce shipping costs, and provide closer service to its growing customer base in North America. The Wisconsin facility will also help shield the company from future trade fluctuations while supporting sustainable growth in a key global market.

This new U.S. venture comes shortly after Brett Martin announced a major investment in its Mallusk site, aimed at strengthening supply for the UK and Ireland. Together, these moves highlight the company’s dual strategy of expanding globally while reinforcing its local roots, ensuring long-term resilience and competitiveness.
