Brightspeed Completes Fiber Build in 11 Kansas Communities

Caroline Raffetto

Brightspeed has announced the completion of its fiber broadband deployment in 11 Kansas communities, delivering high-speed internet to nearly 23,000 homes and businesses and setting the stage for further expansion across the state.

The company, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, is the nation’s third-largest fiber broadband builder and was recently recognized by HighSpeedInternet.com’s 2025 Annual Service Provider Review as the provider of the country’s fastest internet service.

The completed fiber network build now connects families and businesses in Baldwin, Ellinwood, Fredonia, Garnett, Hillsboro, Hoisington, Holton, Horton, Junction City, Osage City and Osawatomie.

“At Brightspeed, we believe in closing the digital divide by connecting communities with access to modern, reliable communications technology,” said Carsi Mitzner, director of government affairs at Brightspeed. “Bringing our advanced fiber network to these areas is a major step forward in replacing outdated copper infrastructure with a more resilient solution so customers, especially those in underserved locations, can have voice and internet service they can count on.”

Building Digital Equity in Kansas

According to BroadbandNow, only 59.9% of Kansans currently have access to fiber-optic service. Brightspeed’s expansion aims to significantly improve that figure. By the end of its Kansas buildout, more than 57,000 households and small businesses will have access to multi-gig-speed fiber internet.

Currently, nearly 24,000 locations are fiber enabled, with additional counties such as Cherokee, Coffey, Franklin, Jefferson, Johnson, Labette, McPherson, Reno, and Stafford expected to come online soon.

A detailed breakdown provided by the company shows Geary County leading with more than 8,400 ready-for-service locations, followed by Anderson, Barton, Jackson, Miami, Marion, and Wilson counties with thousands of new connections each.

A Community-First Approach

Beyond installing the infrastructure, Brightspeed is focusing on direct community engagement. Representatives wearing Brightspeed-branded apparel are going door to door in neighborhoods across Kansas to share information about fiber service availability, internet plan options, and customer benefits.

This customer-first strategy is designed not only to inform residents but also to build trust in areas that have historically had limited broadband options.
