Greater Boston is gaining additional engineering and construction capacity as Burns & McDonnell opens a larger local workplace in Newton, Massachusetts. The new location provides space for more than 100 employees and is intended to support project delivery and client activity across the Northeast.

Newton Office Expands Local Capacity

Located at 85 Wells Ave., the new office gives Burns & McDonnell additional operating capacity in the Greater Boston market. The location supports work across grid modernization, environmental permitting, resiliency, mission-critical infrastructure, life sciences and manufacturing.

The office opening was marked by a Sept. 30 ribbon-cutting event attended by company representatives, local officials, clients and community leaders.

Burns & McDonnell has maintained a presence in Newton since 2017 and has operated in Massachusetts for more than eight decades. The expanded location creates additional capacity for collaboration and local hiring while connecting regional projects with resources from the broader organization.

Kent Herzog to Lead Boston Operations

Kent Herzog has taken responsibility for leading the Boston office. His role includes developing the local workforce, strengthening client relationships and coordinating access to Burns & McDonnell’s engineering, construction and consulting capabilities.

The leadership change accompanies the physical expansion and places local team development at the center of the office’s next phase of operations.

The Newton location is positioned to support projects throughout Greater Boston and coastal New England, particularly across infrastructure and industrial sectors identified by Burns & McDonnell as areas of regional activity.

Why It Matters

For construction owners and developers, a larger local office can provide access to additional engineering, construction and consulting resources without relying exclusively on teams based outside the market. The Newton expansion also adds local capacity for infrastructure, manufacturing, life sciences and other technically complex projects.

For the regional construction workforce, the office provides space for more than 100 employees and is expected to support additional hiring opportunities in Greater Boston.
