“We are deeply honored to build upon the respected legacy that English’s has cultivated since its founding in 1909,” company officials said in the announcement. “Capps Home Building Center proudly provides exceptional customer service and quality building products to customers across the Smith Mountain Lake, Roanoke, and New River Valley areas. We are excited to bring that same expansive knowledge and dedication to the communities of Altavista and Central Virginia in January, 2026.”

The acquisition allows Capps to enter a new market while continuing English’s longstanding role as a trusted supplier to builders and contractors in the region. The Altavista location will operate as Capps Home Building Center–Altavista and is expected to officially begin serving customers under the new ownership in early 2026.

Bruce Shelton, CEO of Capps Home Building Center, emphasized the role of employees in enabling the company’s growth strategy.

“The dedication of our team has been the cornerstone of Capps for 47 years, allowing us to build a brand associated with superior customer service and ethical standards in everything we do,” Shelton said. “This Altavista location is a direct result of their commitment, and we are excited and proud to grow our family into this new community.”

Focus on Pro Builders and Custom Homes

The Altavista facility will focus primarily on serving professional building contractors and custom home builders. Customers will have access to a broad range of premium building materials, along with technical expertise and support services designed to streamline project delivery.

Plans for the location include an updated showroom showcasing key product categories such as windows, doors, composite decking, siding, and interior molding. In addition, the operation will offer full delivery capabilities, professional estimating services, and 24/7 online account access to support contractors managing complex builds and tight schedules.

Strengthening a Regional Supply Network

The acquisition reflects continued consolidation and strategic expansion within the lumber and building materials sector, as suppliers seek to scale operations while maintaining localized service. By combining Capps’ operational resources with English’s established market presence, the company aims to strengthen service offerings across Central Virginia.

Capps Home Building Center’s leadership said the expansion aligns with its long-term commitment to ethical business practices, customer-focused service, and steady growth through both organic development and targeted acquisitions.
