Cemstone buys Crow River ready-mix plant

NEW LONDON, Minn. — Cemstone Products Company has officially acquired Crow River Construction’s ready-mix concrete plant and aggregate facility, marking a strategic move that strengthens Cemstone’s presence in Minnesota and across the Midwest.

The acquisition, announced Aug. 18, allows Crow River Construction to return to its core expertise in sewer and water utility construction while transitioning its materials operations to Cemstone.

Founded in 1927, Cemstone is a fifth-generation, family-owned company that has become a trusted name in the Upper Midwest’s construction industry. The company provides ready-mix concrete, aggregates, construction supplies, and materials, with operations spanning Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

According to the announcement, Cemstone approached Crow River with the acquisition offer. Crow River leadership called it a “tough but thoughtful” decision to step away from the materials side of the business.

“The transaction will strengthen Cemstone’s presence across Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin, while allowing Crow River, based out of New London, to refocus on its core construction operations,” the company said in a statement.

Employees at the New London facility will also see benefits from the transition. According to the news release, those joining Cemstone will have access to expanded resources, training programs, and long-term career development opportunities. This ensures job continuity while giving workers access to a larger regional network.

Crow River emphasized that this move positions the company to sharpen its focus on infrastructure work, particularly in utility construction. Sewer and water utility projects remain one of the most critical sectors of the construction industry, especially as cities across Minnesota and beyond work to modernize aging systems and expand capacity to serve growing populations.

The acquisition also reflects broader trends in the Midwest’s construction materials market, where consolidation has become a key strategy for companies seeking to expand service territories, streamline supply chains, and meet demand from both public and private projects.

With this deal, Cemstone strengthens its ability to provide high-quality materials across its tri-state footprint, while Crow River doubles down on its utility contracting roots.
